Angaston does mornings brilliantly — the Saturday farmers market, a wander down the main street, the drive up to Mengler's Hill Lookout. When it's time to actually eat, Barossa 50's Diner is a 10-minute drive away on Murray Street in Tanunda: a family restaurant where the burgers are stacked, the thickshakes need a spoon and the jukebox is always on.

Inside it's genuine 1950s America — checkerboard floors, red vinyl booths, chrome and neon. The menu runs from gourmet burgers, hot dogs and loaded fries to milkshakes, spider drinks and a full ice creamery counter, with vegetarian options marked and a shelf of retro American giftware to browse on the way out. We serve lunch every day except Tuesday and dinner to 8pm Thursday to Sunday.
