Which Burger Should I Order? A Tanunda Burger Guide

Most of our burgers are named after the cities and stars of the 50s. Here's how to find yours.

By Barossa 50's Diner

The Short Answer

Our burgers fall into five families: beef classics (Houston, Dallas, Orleans, Texan), house-made brisket patties (Montana, Brooklyn), chicken (Kentucky, Mississippi, Hepburn, Monroe), pork and fish (Michigan, Fishville), and two vegetarian burgers (Vegas and the fried Halloumi). For the classic diner experience, start with a beef burger and a thickshake.

Start Here: What Kind of Burger Mood Are You In?

  • Keep it classic: the Houston. Beef, double cheese, pickles, ketchup and mustard. No fuss.
  • Hungry enough for the lot: the Dallas, with bacon, cheese, egg, beetroot and salad, or the Brooklyn, which stacks a brisket patty with bacon, egg and a hash brown.
  • Want some heat: the Monroe (spicy crumbed chicken, sriracha mayo, jalapeno) or the Texan (jalapeno relish and a hash brown).
  • Something a bit fancy: the Hepburn, grilled chicken with deep fried brie and mango chutney.
  • No meat: the Halloumi or the Vegas.

The Full Burger Line-Up

Here's every burger on the menu right now, grouped so it's easier to compare. Ingredients are exactly as they appear on our menu.

Beef Classics

A beef patty with the trimmings, from the simple to the stacked.

  • Houston: Beef patty, double cheese, pickles, ketchup & mustard
  • Dallas: Beef patty, bacon, cheese, egg, lettuce, onion, tomato, beetroot & ketchup
  • Orleans: Beef patty, double cheese, bacon, pickles, onion rings, aioli & BBQ sauce
  • Texan: Beef patty, double cheese, hash brown, jalapeno relish & burger sauce

House-Made Brisket Patties

For something richer, these two use a brisket patty made in house.

  • Montana Burger: House-made brisket patty, cheese, maple bacon, tomato, lettuce, tomato relish
  • Brooklyn Burger: House-made brisket patty, cheese, red onion, bacon, egg, hash brown, BBQ sauce

Chicken

Schnitzel, grilled or spicy crumbed: four very different chicken burgers.

  • Kentucky: Chicken schnitzel, tasty cheese, tomato, bacon, lettuce & aioli
  • Mississippi: Grilled chicken, tasty cheese, tomato, lettuce, salsa & sour cream
  • Hepburn: Grilled chicken, deep fried brie, red onion, lettuce & mango chutney
  • Monroe Burger: Spicy crumbed chicken, pickles, red onion, tomato, lettuce, sriracha mayo & jalapeno

Pork & Fish

Pulled pork with house-made slaw, or a crumbed fish burger.

  • Michigan: Pulled pork and house-made slaw
  • Fishville: Crumbed fish, tasty cheese, tomato, lettuce with lemon & dill aioli

Vegetarian

Two meat-free burgers, both marked vegetarian on the menu.

  • Vegas: Crumbed vegetable patty, tomato, lettuce & aioli (vegetarian)
  • Halloumi: Fried halloumi, mushroom, onion, capsicum, tomato, lettuce & sweet chilli mayo (vegetarian)

About That Halloumi Burger

If you've never had a halloumi burger, it's a good place to start even if you do eat meat. Halloumi is a firm, salty cheese that holds its shape when it's fried, so it eats like a proper burger filling rather than a melted slice. Ours comes with mushroom, onion, capsicum, tomato, lettuce and sweet chilli mayo. The Vegas is the other vegetarian pick, built on a crumbed vegetable patty with aioli.

Vegetarian sides are easy too: plain fries and wedges are both marked vegetarian on the menu. For any specific dietary question, give us a call and we'll help.

Make It a Meal

A burger on its own is a good lunch. A burger with sides and a shake is the full diner experience. A few ways to build it out:

  • Fries: plain in small, large or XL, or go loaded. The Chicago (gravy and shredded cheese) and the Yankee (pulled pork and American cheese) are the hearty ones.
  • Extras: add cheese, bacon, egg, jalapenos or an extra patty. Sauces include aioli, hot sauce, garlic butter and sour cream.
  • A shake: a milkshake if you want something light alongside, a thickshake if you want dessert in a glass. Not sure which? Read thickshake vs milkshake.
  • Or a spider: ice cream in fizzy soft drink. What's a spider drink?
